There is not many days that go by that somehow or another I remember Joe, he was known as the "hamster" to us guys in Transit. Joe was one of a kind, samll in stature but he had a big heart and was always in on all our jokes. I will never forget that day, I went thru the academy with Joe, he stayed at my home, we worked together and unfortunately I was a pall bearer at his funeral. Rest in peace old friend, you are not forgotten.

Siting at my computer and thinking of Hamster puts a big smile on my face. I never called Joe by his name, only by Hamster. He was the type of guy you had to love. I remember Hamster coming up to me and asking me if he could buy my leather uniform jacket. By the way, I did sell my jacket to him. Rest in peace my friend!

It's hard to believe we were in the same Police Academy company over 25 years ago. (80-19) We did have good times in the academy @20th st. I met "Hamp" OR "Hamster" just one time while on patrol in Manhattan. Train came in blowing a long/short calling for police, I met the train, Doors opened up and who comes tumbling out trying to arrest someone?...Hampy! Anyway, Rest in peace.

Joe AKA the Hampster and I came on the job together in 1980. We also worked in the Vandals Squad. Great guy with an even greater sense of humor. May he rest in peace and always be remembered by us all.
