| On Saturday morning, August 2, 1851, at approximately 1AM a group of sailors from the American Schooner, ?Habana? were having a dispute with a bartender in the ?Porter-house? (Bar & Restaurant) of Christopher Lilly on Water St. Ptl. Prendergast of the 4th Patrol District, attempting to restore order, was assaulted. Sgt. Foster came to his aid. He was stabbed by one of the sailors and died two days later. | ||||
