I ran across this site for the first time today. David Thurman and I were in the same academy class. Because we were sent out to the street before finishing the academy, we had to go back to finish the classes. We would at times ride together to our classes. I recall that one day we stopped in a restaurant to eat, and the owner engaged us in conversation. He wanted to know why we wanted such a dangerous career instead of working for the Post Office or some other governmental agency. We only smiled. After he left, Being a young rookie, not quite used to Police work as yet,I said to David, "Hey, this job is not as dangerous as everyone thinks." I was wrong. He paid the ultimate sacrifice within a few short weeks. I recall that as if it was yesterday. Officer Thurman, Rest In Peace with the satisfaction that you have joined the ranks of brave and honorable men.
