| I came on the job with Bob Bilodeau. He was appointed the same day as myself. 2/26/73. I remember him from the Police Academy. Although we weren't close friends, simply because we were separated because of where we assigned accordingl to the borough we resided. However, I knew him to be a friendly person and of course later on as a courageous police officer. I will always remember him in my prayers.. Ed Ulon retired Lieutenant, NYPD | ||||

| One night at man/cb,I met Officer Bilodeau processing his prisoner{s];he had just returned to full duty after having his throat slashed while on duty.I commented on his injury and that maybe he should go for three quarters, but he shrugged it off.I thought that was pretty special of him he loved the job more than himself. | ||||

| I met Bobby in the Police Academy as we were in the same class 73-8. We along with about 10 others were assigned to the $1Pct. Bobby was an active cop and loved by all. On one arrest he almost lost the sight in one eye. But that didn't stop Bobby he was determined to be the best cop in the N.Y.P.D. Although we both later moved on within the dept. we always stayed in touch. Bobby had another close call while on an assignment he had his throat slashed. Again Bob returned to duty not thinking twice about how close he came to death. I was on my way to work when I got the news of Bobby's death on my car radio. Although I lost 3 other co workers in the 41, Bobby's death hit home the hardest. He was a great cop and a great father and husband. He is still missed by all who knew him and will remain forever in our hearts. Ted Dziedzic. | ||||

| Robert Bilodeau was my Uncle. I was just a teen when I heard that he was killed in the line of duty. He was such a brave man, he truly was doing what he was meant to do, serve on the police force. We all still miss him so much. I'll never forget his nickname for me "Pizza face". I guess I could eat pizza for every meal! Not only do i miss my Uncle but I miss all my cousins (his children). The person who took my uncles life also broke the connection that his children had with their cousins. I miss you Uncle Bobby but know that we will never forget you and feel your presence when we gather around chatting about you! | ||||

| Bobby Bilodeau died in the arms of my partner and I. There isn't a moth that goes by that I don't think of this hero. Here it is 25 years later and I'm still here and Bobby is long gone. The shock of the shootout and loss of such a great cop had me forget that I actually placed his snub nose firearm in my waistband and didn't remember until the detectives in the 28 questioned me. He had three beautiful kids and a beautiful wife. The children are all grown by now and I pray they are all well. That is a night I shall never forget. When you think of the word Hero--know that Bobby Bilodeau's name is right next to it. | ||||

| I met Bob at the Academy in feb.of '73 we were in class 73-8.Most of us were fresh out of the service and coming back from Nam.We were one of the oldest classes that ever entered the Academy. Most of the guys in that class were mature and had street smarts beyond belief. That fact Is evidenced by the exploits of bob.He was one of the rare breed of cops that had that sixth sense. He could smell trouble from afar. After we graduated from the Academy I had a party at my house and We were discussing what we wanted to accomplish in the dept.Bob answered,"I want to be the best cop in the Dept." He was,and then some. I feel honored to have known him. | ||||

| I never knew Bob, but I remember the first time Bob made the local NYC news. He was slashed while working undercover as a derelict. He needed many stitches. Then, some time later, Bob made the news again when he died in the line of duty. Cops like Bob are those we need all be proud of. More interested in doing a first-rate job than they are in salary or pensions, etc. I hope there are many cops just like Bob today in NYPD. Cops like Bob have made NYC so much safer. There also is a plaque with Bob's name at the Police Hall of Fame in Miami. Whenever I talk highly of courageous cops, I talk about Bob and his two on-the job injuries (including the fatal one). Cops like Bob are good reasons to give cops raises. They are targets while working. | ||||

| It's coming up on 29 years and it seems like yesterday the nightmare occured when I had to notify Bob's wife and childlren that he had died. I was part of Bob's 3 man team but that night having just returned from "sick call" had asked him and our 3rd team member Mario if I could drive the 1st Squad Sgt. My world changed a few hours later when I heard Mario call over the 10-13. Most weeks since then have not gone by without me thinking of him and his family.Bob and Kathy I am so sorry for not having been there to possibly have made a difference. Bob, rest in peace. | Bobby and Mario were actually on there way back to Randalls Island at the end of their tour when they spotted the perp. Instead of just ignoring him they gave chase. I worked in the first sqd at SCU with Bob. He met my family and ate at my kitchen table. He had several opportunities for 3/4's but didn't want them. My wife looked at the scars on his slashed neck and couldn't believe he still survived. There was also a connection between his assailant and an arrest that Abe Walton made. "Cut-em-loose Bruce" also had a hand in all of this. | ||||
