| Officer Calabrese, 34, was shot and killed with his own weapon while attempting to arrest a fare evader at the Columbus Circle subway station. The suspect immediately grabbed Officer Calabrese's gun and shot him. Another Transit Police Officer, eating lunch in the area, heard of the incident on his portable radio and responded to the location. He encountered the suspect walking down the street with the officer's gun and arrested him. | ||||

| The homeless male that killed officer Calabrese was a martial arts expert. In addition the homeless male was captured several minutes later by another officer who found the perpetrator walking up the street with officer Calabrese nightstick in his possession. | ||||

| Sammy was my cousin. We used to sit around the dinner table and talk about the day we'd work together. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him. Whenever I'm 10-8, he's with me looking over my sholder. Miss you, Sammy | ||||

| We grew up together in New York. Sammy was a little older than me. He was more like a brother than a cousin. He was a big part of my life. I think of him all the time. He is always in my heart. In the 60's our family moved to Ohio, but we always kept in touch. He was stationed in Germany, and always wrote to each other. I know he is always watching over us every day. I love you. | ||||
